History of Mama Sana Vibrant Woman


Founded project of Mamas of Color Rising to improve the pregnancy and birth outcomes for communities of color in Austin through supporting the individual and collective self-determination of low-income women of color. 


Worked to demand that the Texas Commission on Jail Standards implement current minimum standards of care, establish written policies and procedures, and begun to document all pregnancies and pregnancy outcomes. 


Produced "Austin-a "Family Friendly' City: Perspective and Solutions from Mothers in the CIty," a report shedding light on the ongoing racial disparities in Austin for a wide range of social determinants of health. 

In response, the Austin City Council budgeted funds for community-based, culturally specific, non-conventional health equity projects that address the systemic racial health inequities. 


Awarded 350,000 from Austin Public Health to address maternal and infant health disparities in Travis County.
