LOCATION: Hybrid - remote work from home + in office per programmatic needs. Applicant must reside in Greater Austin area

POSITION TYPE: full-time exempt

SALARY: $90,000/year

MISSION

We are caregivers of color, some of us identify as mothers, sisters, and people disrupting capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and institutional abuse. Our organization is built upon a shared leadership model and focuses on whole-body wellness from a reproductive justice lens.

 

Our goal is to improve pregnancy and birth outcomes for communities of color in Central Texas by providing culturally congruent education and support using the midwifery model of care.

POSITION SUMMARY

As the Co-Executive Director of Programs, you will collaboratively build and implement strategy for birth support programs and services that are community-facing. This includes monitoring & evaluation, community engagement and co-design, as well as various administrative tasks. The position may also include occasional weekend and evening hours.  The Co-Executive Director of Programs is responsible for leading MSVW’s programming vision, strategy, & execution to ensure holistic birth support services to diverse communities.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Program Strategy, Vision, and Management 

  • Facilitate and develop overall organizational strategic plan and theory of change

  • Build annual organizational calendar of events 

  • Facilitate annual program planning and vision

  • Own, maintain, and update internal resource hubs 

  • Build out infrastructure and procedures for current programs and any new programs that are established.

  • Manage and evaluate all programs within the department 

  • Ensure grant compliance within programmatic work

 

Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead, participate, and prep agendas for program team workgroup meetings as needed

  • Lead, participate, and prep agenda for  ED check-ins and culture meetings

  • Hire and train programmatic staff

  • Ensure staff alignment with strategic goals and professional development through coaching, updates, and progress monitoring

  • Manage programmatic partnerships between staff & outside stakeholders

  • Ability to manage 3-4 programmatic team members 


 

Program Curriculum & Event Development 

  • Guide development of prenatal/postnatal support group curriculum and programmatic themes 

  • Assist implementation and planning of programs and events 

  • Identify key facilitators, venues, vendors, and budget

  • Collaborate with communications teams for marketing and promotions

  • Support Doula Team Director in curriculum development

  • Lead communication and promotional strategy for program events

 

Cross-Team Communication & Contractor Oversight 

  • Manage work plan and accountability systems for contractors such as midwives, therapists, lactation consultants, bodywork providers, outreach, etc.

  • Work closely with Co-Executive Director of Operations and Finance on contracts

 

Program Finance 

  • Coordinate with finance team on emergency assistance support

  • Own and manage programmatic budget

  • Coordinate and review contracts for finance team’s final approval

  • Ensure compliance with grant implementation plans

 

Shared Leadership Model 

  • Commitment to a shared leadership model - making decision together, sometimes using an advice decision making process

  • Participate in Co-ED team meetings 

  • Monitor overall organizational direction and health 

  • Provide feedback and advice on major strategic decisions affecting the whole organization 

  • Tend to emergencies and major issues, helping problem-solve and strategizing on the most effective paths forward 

  • Coordinate across the organization, ensuring the work is aligned and information is communicated well 

  • Share the responsibility of keeping the pulse of staff morale and support efforts to improve staff wellness

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Essential:

  • MSVW is currently using a hybrid working model. Applicants must be able to work from home and attend in-person meetings.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively via email and phone.

  • Four years of experience within the birth justice movement and/or reproductive justice movement

  • Three years of program evaluation experience

  • Strong commitment to Mama Sana Vibrant Woman’s mission and values, including a passion for equity and building an inclusive and antiracist organization.

  • Three years of previous experience leading/managing a programmatic team that offers direct services

  • Comfortable working across cultures, languages, and differences, including experience and comfort working with people of color, immigrants, English language learners, and gender expansive people.

  • Strong analytical, critical decision-making, project management, and process improvement skills

  • Event planning and management skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects.

  • Experience working in Slack, Asana, Apricot, and Google Drive

Strongly preferred:

  • Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills.

  • Roots in the birthworker/ birth organization space in Central Texas.

  • Previous experience working within a collective or workers cooperative

Preferred: 

  • Bilingual, Spanish/ English is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Comfortable learning and working with new technology
