How You Help
HERE, WE CARRY EACH OTHER.
Our programs offer a series of 8-week culturally specific support groups along with a range of services including free exercise classes, nutrition support, birth companions/doulas, and access to prenatal midwifery care at no cost.
For our participants post-partum experience, we hold ongoing Mama 4 Mama circles to encourage connection and self-care. All sessions include free childcare, a nutritious meal, and transportation assistance.
Impact Story
"I met another participating parent in my Yoga class. She made a comment about her beautiful home birth. I told her I would like to have one, but I didn’t think I had the money to pay for it. She told me MSVW could help me. I felt very excited when I thought about having an experience like that. She gave me Lourdes' (MSVW representative) number and I called her because I was already 5 months pregnant and I didn't know if MSVW could help me.
Lourdes answered very kindly and she told me that she would interview me, with who would possibly be my midwife, so I could be checked out and for the midwife to say if she could help me. I had the appointment with Janixa (my midwife). When I asked how much they would charge me, she said that it was not important and I did not have to worry about that.
From there on, I was supported until the day of delivery. Everything they did was "double the gift of love" for me and the arrival of my baby. My birth companion, Ellen, was a wonderful support. Janixa and Jeny were so respectful to me and my baby. It was a really wonderful experience. After the birth, their support with postpartum visits made me feel very special because of their attentiveness with gifts for me and the baby. They were excellent support.
Later, for the postpartum classes, a car was sent to me to take me to the classes. The food was delicious and I learned several interesting things for me and my baby. After the pandemic started, I felt very relieved with the financial help, of food and essential things like vitamins, sanitary napkins, and basic needs provided.
They have really supported me so much, that I will always be very grateful for all. "It has marked our lives."
